No promotion without tests for school students: minister

He told a news conference that it was up to the schools to hold the final exams by whatever means they found fit.

Asked what the schools could do in such an uncertain situation, Nahid said: "I won't reveal any details. A way will be found. If I spell out everything, then they (Opposition) will create obstacles."

The minister said most of the schools in the country have finished holding final exams.

"Exams are going on in the 400 hundred high schools of Dhaka. But they are yet to finish in schools in some other big cities".

"We are concerned about the schools in Dhaka," said Nahid.

Ruling out the possibilities of 'automatic promotion', Nahid said a bad example would be set if the exams were not finished on time.

"Automatic promotions will not happen."

Despite the disruptions caused by Opposition's relentless blockades, students can be handed over new textbooks on the first day of the new year, said Nahid.
