Sylhet rail station attacked

The incident took place around 10pm on Sunday amid the 18-Party alliance’s blockade across Bangladesh.

At least 20 miscreants riding motorcycle entered the station and exploded several handmade bombs, said an official at the station.

They also hurled petrol bombs at the ticket counter and vandalised the windows and some furniture at the time.

Two railway staff were injured in the attack, said Sylhet GRP Station OC Alamgir Hossain. They were given first aid.

He said police were trying to nab the attackers.

At Nilphamari, a group of masked miscreants exploded crude and petrol bombs at the election office.

The attack took place around 7:45pm, police said.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sadar circle) of the district Shafiul Islam told reporters that police fired several rounds of teargas shells and in the air.

The attackers, however, fled the scene after police arrived.

Police also recovered four live petrol bombs and eight crude bombs from there, said Shafiul Islam.

There were no casualties.
