Another blockade violence victim dies

The incident that left Rehana Aktar, 25, with severe head injuries had taken place on Dec 2 at Savar during the Opposition’s blockade across Bangladesh.

Aktar died on Sunday night at Enam Medical College and Hospital at Savar, police said.

Savar Police Station OC Mostofa Kamal told bdnews24.com the bus she was riding with her brother Nazrul Islam on the night of Dec 2 was on its way to Dhaka from Dhamrai.

Miscreants had hurled petrol bombs at it at Fulbarhia.

Aktar was rushed to the hospital after she was badly hurt in the head when the passengers hurried to disembark the bus, Kamal said.

Several days ago, another passenger of that bus, Ratan Kumar Saha, had also succumbed to his injuries sustained in the same incident.

However, they had not suffered any burns even though the bus caught fire from the petrol bombs.

More than 50 people have been killed in the spate of violence during the 18-Party alliance’s blockades in the last three weeks.

At least 13 people in Dhaka and another in Chittagong have also died from severe burns sustained in arson attacks carried out during same programmes.
