Jamaat calls strike Sunday to protest Molla’s death

The call to enforce the strike a day before the nation celebrates the Victory Day, Dec 16, was made in a statement published in the party website.

Molla, the first convict of crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War to walk the gallows, was hanged at 10:01pm on Thursday.

Acting head of Jamaat, Maqbul Hossain in the statement said, "The government has killed Abdul Quader Molla in a planned way ignoring calls from international community and the people of Bangladesh."

Earlier in the day, after the Supreme Court rejected Molla's petition to review his death sentence, the party in another statement had said, "Awami League will have to pay for each drop of Abdul Quader Molla’s blood."
