Country absolved of a blemish

Reacting to the execution, they said with this an end of an ignominious chapter in Bangladesh’s history has begun.

“The nation was shamed by their acts and with this execution the country is now relieved of that inglorious past,” said Grand Alliance spokesman Mohammad Nasim.

“The execution has also assured the people that remaining verdicts will also be implemented on time,” he said.

Nasim, who is also a presidium member of ruling Awami League that led the Grand Alliance, said, “This (trial of war crimes) was also our electoral promise.”

“We are completing the unfinished tasks of Bangabandhu. The verdict has fulfilled the expectations of the nation. The nation has got rid of another disgrace.”

Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said, “With the execution of Quader Molla the nation has been relieved of a burden.”

He hoped other war criminals would be executed to continue the process.

He said the nation had taken a step forward towards emancipating the country of its 42- year old scar.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said, “With the execution of a Razakar (collaborators of the Pakistani Army) the martyrs’ souls have been rested in peace.”

Communist Party of Bangladesh President Mujahidul Islam Selim termed Quader Molla’s execution a victory of ‘Shahid Janani’ Jahanara Imam.

He also dubbed it as a victory of the Ganajagaran Mancha and the people.

Selim demanded implementation of all war crimes verdicts.

“The Jamaat-Shibir who collaborated with the Pakistani forces should not only be banned, but also be annihilated. We have to unmask these forces before the international community. We can achieve a complete victory if we can do these tasks,” he said.
